Bicultural Inclusion Support Services
PSCWA is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) to provide bicultural inclusion support to early childhood services to enable them to include children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CaLD), humanitarian refugee children and Indigenous children.
BISSWA provide the following support to early childhood services:
- assistance in communicating with families and children from diverse cultural backgrounds. This could include interpreting support, verbal translation of enrolment documents and the provision of key words and phrases to help communication with a child;
- assistance in understanding the cultural backgrounds, experiences and child rearing practices of a child and their family;
- cultural information to increase staff’s knowledge on the understanding of relevant cultural issues;
- training workshops relating to specific cultures;
- support with the implementation of culturally appropriate practices and an anti-bias curriculum;
- referral to professional development, inclusion support and resources through PSC WA and ISA’s;
- information about relevant community resources and services to support the inclusion of children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds; and
- bicultural advice and support to Inclusion Support Facilitators.
BISWA Fact Sheets can be accessed here.

Enjoy celebrating these events in your centres in ways that are meaningful to your children and their families.
