Resource Centre

PSC WA is funded by the Commonwealth Government’s Inclusion and Professional Support Program (IPSP) to manage CHILD Australia’s Resource Centre.

The Resource Centre has over 20,000 items to support early childhood educators meet programming and professional needs. Resources include information on child development, special needs and disability, diversity and inclusion, child protection, quality practice in early childhood education, and topics as diverse as toileting, grief and emotional development.

A wide range of multicultural items including costumes, artefacts, children’s books, music, games, and posters are available. These can be borrowed in kit form or individually to enhance the diversity and inclusivity of an early childhood service’s program. There are also toys, games, photo sets, cause and effect toys and children’s books.

Policies to Go By resource has been recently updated!

The Policies to Go By resource has been updated to assist services to successfully meet the requirements of the National Quality Framework and subsequent National Quality Standard.  The sample policies offer children's services approved providers, nominated supervisors, coordinators, and educators with some sample policies to be used as a guide to operate within required legal parameters. The Multicultural Boxes are back! The Multicultural Boxes are based on:

Each box is supplied with a Professional Development Workbook and Powerpoint Presentation which provide reflective information on embedding cultural competence into practice. All boxes and workbooks are linked with the Early Years Learning Framework and the Framework for School Age Care and the National Quality Standards.

A variety of kits are available to support language and social skills.

The Child Australia Resource Centre has an extensive collection of Aboriginal resources that are available for loan to members to enhance the diversity and inclusivity of a child care service’s program.

Aboriginal resources include:
  • Children’s books
  • Dolls
  • Posters
  • Music
  • Puzzles
  • Artefacts e.g. Boomerangs, Tapping sticks, Imitation foods and berries, Didgeridoo

Story Boxes and Chatter Boxes contain children’s books, with additional information and ideas on language development and stimulating use of resources.

  

Show Me, Tell Me Kits have resources and information on using augmentative communication for children with significant language disorders. They include a DVD, children’s books and the basics for introducing Makaton signing and/or picture symbols into your program.

E-Boxes have a theme of “Exploring Emotions and Empathy” and contain information for early childhood educators and books for children to support the development of emotional literacy.

Music Kits contain multicultural musical instruments and music and a collection of simple ideas and activities to enhance the music component of a service’s program.

Membership

There is Professional Membership available for both Australian Government Approved Child Care Services (AGACCS) and Non-AGACCS.

Membership includes access to our members only area of our website.  This includes access to a variety of procedural handbooks and “policies to go by” to assist service meet regulatory requirements.

To join CHILD Australia’s Resource Centre (and obtain access to the members only area of our website), please download our Resource Centre Membership form.  Please note membership for the Mobile and Postal Library is now closed.

Specialist Equipment

The Resource Centre coordinates Specialist Equipment to support the inclusion of children with a disability and high ongoing support needs in Western Australia.

To access this equipment from CHILD Australia’s Resource Centre a child must be attending Australian Government Approved Childcare Services (AGACCS) and the equipment needs should be identified by the early childhood educator and Inclusion Support Facilitator (from a regionally based Inclusion Support Agency) in the Service Support Plan.  Details of the equipment requested are included in an Inclusion Support Subsidy application.  This information is then forwarded to our Specialist Equipment Team who provide the equipment following consultation with the child’s therapists and the Childcare program coordinator.
