March 2010 Leadership Retreat

"Nurturing the Leader Within" 

On the 26 March a group of early childhood educators participated in a leadership retreat organised by CHILD Australia and facilitated by Anthony Semann from Semann & Slattery.

The aim of the retreat was to firstly provide a space for intellectual engagement across a range of issues relevant to early childhood whilst also providing time for participants to 'slow down', reflect and connect with their colleagues.

Each day of the two-day retreat began with a refreshing early morning walk on the beach followed by the more formal learning components of the retreat which included a focus on succession planning, reflective thinking and strategic planning. Evenings were marked with candle light walks on the beach and a dinner shared with colleagues.

There were of course a number of highlights to the retreat. These included the networking and bonds formed amongst the group. Such connections are valuable in creating sustainability for educators long after the retreat is finished.

Mention must also be made of the fantastic "skit" performances which took place on the second night of the retreat. Participants were placed in groups and given time to prepare a performance. All dressed up and ready to go, much laughter was had by all.
