Early Years Learning Framework - Summary

The Early Years Learning Framework is a national curriculum framework which will ensure quality and consistency in the delivery of early childhood education programs across all early childhood settings.  This framework was endorsed with the National Early Childhood Development Strategy in July 2009.  Adopting the Framework means children will receive a nationally consistent, quality early childhood education, with learning tailored their individual needs so that they start school as happy and confident learners.

The Early Years Learning Framework describes the principles, practice and outcomes which enhance young children's learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school.  It has a strong emphasis on play-based learning as play is the best vehicle for young children's learning and provides the most stimuli for brain development.

The implementation of the Early Years Learning Framework commenced in early childhood settings from July 2009 as announced byThe Parliamentary Secretary for Early Childhood Education and Child Care, Maxine McKew.
