Professional Development
CHILD Australia is funded by the Commonwealth Government’s Inclusion and Professional Support Program (IPSP) to manage the Professional Support Coordinator programs in Western Australia and the Northern Territory, known as PSCWA and PSCNT respectively.
The Professional Support Coordinator programs provide professional development and support to early childhood professionals in Australian Government Approved Childcare Services (AGACCS) and aim to improve the quality of care provided in childcare settings.
In the area of Professional Development, PSCWA identify the training needs of early childhood education and care staff through an annual state-wide needs analysis. The results of this are used in developing a scheduled professional development program or “Calendar”.
Professional Development Workshops are offered throughout the state, with costs subsidised by the PSC.
Customised training is also available. PSCWA can arrange for a facilitator to present a Professional Development session at your centre if there is an identified gap within that priority area. Please check the PD calendar to ensure there is no PD already planned that relates to your request as PSC WA will decline a request if it is on the PD calendar.
PSCWA also coordinates ongoing professional development using action research methodology to support the professional learning of Inclusion Support Agencies (including Inclusion Support Facilitators) and the Indigenous Professional Support Unit.
PSCWA provide professional development and support to early childhood services, ISA’s and IPSU in the following areas:
- Leadership and management;
- Relationships and partnerships;
- Play-based curriculum; and
- National Quality Framework and other mandatory requirements.
PSCWA subcontract Professional Support Service Providers (PSSP’s) to deliver professional development and support.
